Family Access to Medical Insurance Security (FAMIS)

FAMIS was founded to help families provide health insurance to their children by accessing FAMIS programs, which include: Children’s Health Insurance Program; FAMIS MOMS for pregnant women; and Smile for Children- a dental program. There are no enrollment costs or monthly premium costs for FAMIS, the families will have to pay co-payment. Insurance covers doctor visits, checkups, hospital visits, vaccinations, medicine, tests and x-rays, dental care, vision care, emergency care and mental health care. Eligibility requirements include being a resident of Virginia; children under the age of 19; does not currently have health insurance; not eligible for Virginia state employee health insurance plan; not eligible for Medicaid and meet income restriction guidelines.
