GLBT is a cabinet level office within the executive Office of the Mayor that addresses important concerns of the District’s GLBT residents. The Office works to define issues of concerns to the community and find ways of utilizing government resources to address these issues. Rainbow Response

Rainbow Response is a grassroot coalition that brings together organizations and leaders from the LGBTQ communities, along with traditional domestic violence organizations and government agencies. Rainbow Response seeks to increase awareness about Intimate Partner Violence amid relationships of LGBTQ individuals, educating within the LGBTQ communities and beyond.

SMYAL is the only organization in Washington DC metro area to support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. Provides 1) life skills and leadership development, 2) counseling and support, 3) health and wellness education, 4) safe social activities, and 5) community outreach and education.

The Center maintains many different programs, such as: DC Crystal Meth Working Group, DC for Marriage, Elder Think Tank, Fight HIV in DC, and Tobacco Working Group. One program that DC Center has is GLOV (Gays and Lesbians Opposing Violence); and their primary mission is to reduce violence against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals through community outreach, education, and monitoring cases to ensure that the rights and dignity of GLBT victims are respected and protected.

Women in the Life Association: Social Justice for Lesbians of Color

WITLA is a social justice organization advancing the rights of lesbians of colors through cultural affirmation, education and advocacy. The primary target population is African American, Latina, Native American & Asian Pacific Islander lesbians 21 years of age and older. Their secondary target populations are gay men of color, white women and LGBTQ organizations. WITLA works to improve programs and services offered by organizations to lesbians of color; strengthen education and advocacy efforts.
