COMBINED FEDERAL CAMPAIGN

Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) #14755

Deaf Abused Women's Network (DAWN) participates in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). The CFC is a workplace giving campaign that includes all federal employees: civilian employees, military personnel and postal workers. The campaign season runs from September through December each year and solicits approximately 4 million federal employees in 260 locations. Federal employees donate $270 million annually to support local, national and international community-service needs.

After years of dealing with an unhappy and abusive marriage, I have finally found the way to live my life free of violence from the hands of a partner who I thought loved me. The final straw came one night when the police was called to our home because he had physically hurt me. The cop gave me a business card with Deaf Abused Women's Network hotline information on it. My friend made the call that night to the hotline, and when I felt comfortable I spoke directly with the advocate. She reassured me that someone will meet me at court on Monday to file a protection order.  For so long I was alone and helpless, but that Monday- I was linked to an attorney general who filed charges against my partner; to a domestic violence lawyer who represented my civil protection order case; to a case worker at Crime Victims Compensation who helped pay for counseling services and for me to relocate to a safe place; and to my advocate at DAWN with whom I had weekly peer advocacy and legal advocacy with. Its been a long journey but I can say that I'm in a better place today than I was a year ago because of all of the support I've received at DAWN.
